I was friends with a few of the women at work. One of them was getting married and Friday night they all decided to go
out clubbing to celebrate. That was oaky until I found myself being dragged along with them! Well, maybe it won't be so bad.
Yeah, right.
The first place we went to wasn't so bad. I even started to enjoy myself. The second place was okay, but
when they suggested another place, I put my foot down. They planned the whole thing! I knew it! Unfortunately, I was stuck
with no way to get out of there. Maybe kareoke won't be as bad as I think it might be.
We arrived at the bar and got
a table near the front. My friends ordered drinks for all of us--even though I said no. and Then they started dragging eachother
up to the stage. I chose a moment when they were all distracted and I slipped away to the door--to be caught. "Gerri!
I don't want to be a part of this!" I almost yelled when she started to drag me back in. "Stacy, just a little while longer!
We won't make you do anything!" She didn't give me a chance to reply. She continued to drag me back in.
"Do you
need help?" a man asked. I opened my mouth to reply, but Gerri stepped between me and the man. "She's just a little
shy. " I only got a glimps of his blue eyes before we dissappeared into the bar.
When we got back to the table,
someone handed me a glass of water and I drank half of it before I realized that it was more than water. They had spiked it!
It was too late though. It was already doing its job. It was going straight to my head. That's why I don't drink!
About
a half hour later, I was on stage singing all the sappy love songs I love to sing when they're on the radio. And then I found
the pair of eyes I saw earlier and started singing to them. Tish, another really good friend, got me off the stage. I was
quite happy. And suddenly feeling very sick. I dashed to the bathroom.
When I finally came out, Blue eyes was waiting
there. I turned to go back in, but he caught me.
"You don't have very careing friends." "You noticed!" "Let
me take you home." "I don't even know you!" He laughed. "Let me take you to your home. " "Same answer." "Your
drunk." ". . . . . I am?"
He put his arm around my waist and guided me out to his car. I practically fell into
it when he got the door open, but I got my feet inside without his help. How he found out where I lived, I have no idea. He
did get me there, inside and onto my bed--where I fell asleep.
The next morning I dragged myself to the bathroom
and got a look in the mirror. He was there instantly. "Are you alright?" "What?" "I heard you cry out." "Who
are you and what are you doing in my house?" "Do you remember anything from last night?" "Oh. . . . . My . . . . .
God! It really happened?" He nodded. "I sang every song to you?" "You have a beautiful voice. I enjoyed it." "I
am going to die of embarasment!" "Please don't. I won't be able to see you again if you do." I started slipping from
my perch in the edge of the sink and he caught me before I got too far. "You need something to eat. I've got breakfast
ready for you." "This can't be happening!" I said to myself. He guided me to the breakfast table and sat me down.
He had made scrabled eggs and toast. A small meal for my upset stomach. "I don't know your name." "Daniel." "Thank
you. I wish all my friends were as nice as you."

Two days later, I was beginning to wonder if it all happened at all. Having my 'friends' make a fool of me and then having
a handsome stranger take me home and care for me through the night without trying anything just doesn't happen. Does it?
I
had stopped at the store after work when... "Feeling better?" I turned to see Daniel standing there. "I wanted
to call you, but I forgot to get your number," he explained. "It's okay. You didn't have to check on me. You did more
than anyone I know would have done." "I wanted to call you to see if you'd like to have dinner with me." "Really?
You're not planning on having any alcohol, are you?" He laughed. "No. The fruit juice will be unfermented. So, I can make
you dinner?" "You're going to cook?" I asked in disbelief. "Why not?" "I don't know of many guys who cook." "It
is a secret that I keep from a couple of my friends. If you don't want to..." "No, I'd love to have dinner with you!"
He smiled and I melted. "Great. My place or yours?" "What? I thought..." "You'd come to my place? I already
know where you live, but we can do it at my place." "It's just that I might not have everything you'd need," I found myself
stammering. "I'll bring all the food. You won't have to do a thing," Daniel promised. "Um how about six tomorrow night?"
"I guess I can wait that long..." I couldn't believe what I was hearing! "You want to cook tonight?" He laughed.
"I'm teasing you! Tomorrow would be perfect. I'll se you at six then." And he leaned over and gave me a soft, tender kiss
before leaving me alone.

My job was nice when I started in it, but as time went by, the months turning into years type thing, my co-workers slowly
found that they really didn't like me that much. I think they feel that I'm the goody-goody person in the department. I don't
do anything wrong. I'm well liked by the management. I follow the rules. Now, don't get me wrong. It's just a few of my co-workers
that like that. I have some friends, but they can't stop the talking behind my back. That's how I wound up at this back desk
doing the dull paperwork that nobody liked. Except me. It was a challenge for me. I liked puzzles and it was another puzzle.
That's what I was doing when I overheard a couple of that group talking.
"Some old guy is coming here to look over
our files. He's doing some research project."
"Well, it sounds like it's time to get busy. If we're busy, we can't
get stuck with the geezer."
I got the feeling that I was being set-up. Nothing I could do about it. I didn't have any
time to brood about it. Ms. Smith, as she prefers to be called came to my corner of the world.
"Janie! I've got the
perfect job for you!" she cooed. "My name is Jane-not Janie." "Whatever. There's a famous psychologist coming to look
at our archives and he needs someone to help him. Since you're not doing anything important right now, I gave him your name.
He'll be here this afternoon! Have fun!"
Guess who she's friends with? Right. I was getting ready for lunch when the
most perfect man stopped at my desk.
"Can I help you?" "Are you Jane Reilly?" he asked. "Yes. Is there something
I can help you with?" "Yes there is. I'm Dr. Daniel Jackson. I was told that you will be helping me with my research here."

All afternoon, I was waiting for someone to wake me up. This had to be a dream! But it wasn't a dream. It
was real and so was he. He's not a psychologist. He's an anthropologist and he's hoping that our archives have the information
he's looking for. The evil band in the department saw him, (who couldn't miss him!?) but didn't put two and two together.
I mean, they wouldn't dare let me work with a guy like that! They'd take him for their selves! At the end of the
day, I cleaned off my desk and turned off my computer like I always do. As I reached for my purse, Dr. Jackson stopped at
my desk.
"You were a big help to me today. Can I buy you dinner?" "Um...." "I'm sorry. I should have asked
if you had any plans!" "No. It's okay. I was just going to go home and warm up some leftovers. Dinner would be nice."
He
drove me to a middle of the road type place that mainly serves steaks and seafood. The food was middle of the road, but the
atmosphere was quite popular. We got a table towards the back and just placed our orders when...
"Janie! What are you
doing here and who's your friend?"
"Ms. Smith, this is Dr. Jackson, the anthroplogist who's doing the research?"
"Janie,
you know it's not nice to play tricks on your friends, let alone your superior. Now, who is he?"
Daniel looked at me
briefly and stood. "Ms. Smith. I am Dr. Daniel Jackson. I spoke with you on the phone about the research project and you told
me at that time Jane would be assisting me with my work."
All the color drained out of her face. "You can't be him!
The man I talked to had a gravely voice!"
"I was getting over the flu when I called."
"Well, Janie's not the
best person for you. Let me get someone who can..."
"Jane, is perfect. If you reassign her, I will leave and do my
reaserch somewhere else."
"But..."
"Jane stays with me. Now, if you will excuse us, we were just about to have
dinner," Daniel said, dismissing her. Once she was gone, he turned to me. "I'm afraid I just made thing worse for your
there."
"What do you mean?"
"I know how they were treating you. Once I leave, it will be even worse."
"I'll
manage."
"No. You won't because I would like you to come with me and be my permanent assistant."
I was in shock.
"But,
you'll have to move to Colorado. That's where I'm working. I can probably match what you're making now and help with the moving
expenses."
The waiter brought our orders then and I was able to think while we started eating.
"If you don't
want the job, I'll understand."
"I'm just in shock, that's all. I also don't have a problem with moving either. This
isn't my home town. I can go to Colorado. I'd love to work with you."
"Great! We can finish up tomorrow and then make
plans for your move."
I finished my dinner happier than I had been in months. I had a new job. I was going to work
at the side of Daniel Jackson.
